Delhi Police should apologise for its partisan role in Commando Surinder's arrest

New Delhi: Court order thoroughly exposes Delhi Police’s failed bid to book Commando Surinder under false charges at behest of BJP’s central government :   - Detailed order exposes Police attempts to cook up a false case - Court questions the Police for its attempts to implicate the former NSG commando for kidnapping charges - Delhi Police should apologise for its thorough partisan role Delhi Police needs to explain to the people of Delhi under whose directions it had acted to unsuccessfully implicate former NSG commando MLA Surinder Singh in a case of kidnapping, which has thoroughly exposed it in a court of law.    The Aam Aadmi Party is putting in public domain the bail order of the court to release MLA Commando Surinder Singh, so that the extent to which the Delhi Police is willing to stoop to impress its political masters is known to the public. (Please find attached the bail order of the court along with this press release). In its five-page order, th

AAP reax on Centre's stand on keeping pol parties out of RTI

AAP reaction on Centre’s stand on keeping political parties out of RTI Act : New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party opposes the central government’s view that political parties should be kept out of the ambit of Right to Information (RTI) Act. The AAP is committed to complete transparency and probity in its functioning and strongly supports bringing the political parties under RTI. The central government’s stand before the Supreme Court on Monday is a retrograde step and will lower the credibility of the political class in the eyes of the citizens of the country. The BJP’s central government should have called an all-party meeting before taking such a stand in the Supreme Court, which will have serious repercussions for political parties across the spectrum in the country. BJP leaders, who are now senior ministers in the union cabinet, should look back and reflect on what they had stated in their public utterances when the then Congress-led UPA government had unsuccessfull

Court admits political vendetta, grants bail to AAP’s Surender Singh

NEW DELHI: A Delhi court on Saturday granted bail to Aam Aadmi Par ty (AAP) MLA Surender Singh ‘Commando’ who was arrested by the city police on Friday for assaulting an NDMC employee. "Third AAP MLA to be arrested in the last two months. Out on bail, Singh threatens to join the OROP agitation" Singh alleged before metropolitan magistrate Gomati Manocha that the case against him was politically motivated and was being pursued to “stifle and embarrass the ruling party (AAP)”. “It has been averred that this case is actuated by political vendetta. Thus, no prejudice is likely to be caused to the prosecution in case the accused persons are granted bail,” the court observed, while allowing Singh out on bail and directing him to furnish a personal bond of ` 30,000 along with a surety of the amount.

AAP Condemns Commando Surinder Arrest

New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) strongly condemns the arrest of one of the 26/11-Mumbai Terror attack heroes and former NSG Commando Mr. Surinder Singh. AAP MLA Mr. Singh represents the Delhi Cantonment assembly constituency. It is shocking that a former Commando, who partially lost his hearing capacity during the 26/11 Mumbai Terror attacks at the Taj, is being treated in such a manner by the Delhi Police. FIR was lodged against the MLA more than two weeks ago, questioning was done and he met the top brass of the Delhi Police also. It is quite astonishing the manner in which he was arrested on Friday. The MLA, a public representative, himself went to meet the Police top brass, was questioned then what was the need to arrest him on Friday? The action of Delhi Police, on a motivated allegation, is highly condemnable and suspicious. It is clear that the arrest has been done to divert attention from some other issues. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) would n

The public interest litigation (PIL) filed by Congress leader Naresh Kumar said the rates should be uniform. The petitioned asked the court to declare the August 4 notification of the state government as “null and void”. Appearing for the Delhi government, senior advocate Dayan Krishnan opposed the plea. Apearing for the petitioner, lawyer O.P. Saxena to

Rs 1 lakh security deposit illegal? Landlords can take only one month's rent as advance, rules court

PTI: In a ruling that is likely to have an effect in cities across India, a Chennai court has ruled that landlords can only take one month's advance from tenants. So tenants can now breathe easy while house-owners have a tough task ahead as a XIII small causes court in Chennai in a recent order cited a 1996 Supreme Court verdict which said that a landlord is entitled to only one month's rent in advance. The court had then directed a house-owner to adjust the advance amount paid for rent arrears. The Chennai court passed the ruling last week while hearing an eviction petition filed by a landlord under the Tamil Nadu Buildings (Lease and Rent Control) Act. Petitioner Nimauthullah submitted that he had filed an eviction petition pertaining to the renting out of his premises to an advocate who had agreed to pay Rs 2,500, excluding electricity charges. But the tenant defaulted on payment of rent and electricity charges for 11 months from February 1, 2007, to Janua

Delhi HC dismissing PIL challenging circle rates is a big victory for farmers: Arvind Kejriwal

Delhi chief minister, Arvind Kejriwal, has said that the Delhi High Court dismissing the PIL challenging his government’s notification on circle rates was a big victory for farmers. His tweets said it was also a big blow to the land mafia in the capital. AAP-led Delhi government on Thursday decided not to seek Lieutenant Governor, Najeeb Jung’s approval while enhancing circle rates on agricultural land. A resolution passed by the government had said, “The cabinet directs the officers to implement the notification dated 4 August 2015, so that they are not liable for any loss to the exchequer due to non-implementation of the notification.  The cabinet also urges the Hon’ble LG not to resort to issuance of such unlawful communications which are cause of embarrassment for holders of High Constitutional Offices.” The LG office had reacted calling it “bad in law since it pertains to Land which is a Reserved Subject’, coming under the domain of the central government.

Kejriwal government clears inquiry commission to question roles of Sheila Dikshit and LG in CNG Fitness scam

Delhi’s AAP government has cleared inquiry commission that may question the former chief minister Sheila Dikshit and Lieautenant Governor on scam linked to fitness tests on CNG buses. According to reports, the independent commission of inquiry set up by Delhi government to probe the CNG fitness scam will be headed by retd Justice S N Agarwal. Investigating what came to be known as the CNG scam was a major poll issue by Arvind Kejriwal both in 2013 and 2015 assembly elections. It hired ESP USA as consultant for this purpose. But later, the contract was awarded to another company called ‘ESP India Pvt Ltd’ allegedly with the collusion of officials and intention to steal funds. Surprisingly, this contract was awarded to the firm even beofre it

Why Modi is looking like a loser in Bihar

The Bihar campaign is beginning to flounder like a one-time superstar’s releases who last gave a hit many moons ago. By: Nilanjan Mukhopadhyay: The biggest challenge Narendra Modi faced in the 2014 parliamentary campaign was from the dramatic performance of Aam Aadmi Party in the Assembly polls in 2013. If Arvind Kejriwal had not committed political hara-kiri, Modi’s final tally would have been lower than what it was. AAP’s politics was beginning to resonate in urban India, the earliest political terrain that came under Modi’s sway. But despite grave threat and risk of a Johnny-come-lately running away with his trophy, Modi did not blink and remained captain cool. No name-calling till the threat remained, he launched into a diatribe – recall the AK-49 barb – only after Kejriwal’s political demise in that round. So why has Modi concluded that he can steal a victory in Bihar only by running a hugely negative campaign? Why is he allowing the campa

AAP legislator files complaint against BJP MLA

New Delhi: AAP legislator Alka Lamba on Monday filed a complaint with Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) against BJP legislator O.P. Sharma for using “disgraceful” language against her. “I met (DCW chief) Swati Maliwal today (Monday) and apprised her about the matter. I have filed a complaint (against Sharma) for using disgraceful language against me,” the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader told IANS after filing a complaint with the DCW. In her complaint, Lamba alleged that Sharma cast aspersions on her character and tried to malign her image. “I saw a video of Sharma’s press conference in which he is saying that I (Lamba) roam the (Delhi) roads from 1 a.m. to 4 a.m. and people can understand what I do on roads in the night. This is a direct attack on my character and is an attempt to tarnish my image,” she said. “Sharma accused me of taking drugs and termed my anti-drug drive a drama,” the AAP leader said. In her complaint, she said the BJP legislator threatened her o

Appeal authority too declines RTI application on PM Modi’s degrees

Less than a fortnight after his RTI request for the PM Modi’s educational qualification was turned down, a Gujarat based activist filed an appeal against the decision. But the appellate body’s decision has ‘shocked’ him ‘even more.’ The RTI activist told jantakareporter.com, “I don’t know what was more amusing, the original response or the response I’ve now received from the appellate authority. The original decision had declined to entertain my request and instead asked me to appeal. And now that I’ve taken the trouble of appealing, the appellate body has advised me to file an RTI all over again.” Last week jantakareporter.com reported how the Gujarat-based activist’s request for PM Modi’s educational qualification had been declined both by the PMO and the Election Commission. In the reply, the appellate body headed by SE Rizvi, said, “A public authority is obliged to provide information, which is held in its records and, in the matter in hand where the requisite infor

Nayak bhi wahi hai, chehra bhi wahi, is baar nayi patkatha ke saath: Kumar Vishwas blames Shazia Ilmi for latest allegation of molestation

Nayak bhi wahi hai, chehra bhi wahi, is baar nayi patkatha ke saath: Kumar Vishwas blames Shazia Ilmi for latest allegation of molestation New Delhi:   Senior Aam Aadmi Party leader Kumar Vishwas on Saturday rubbished the case filed against him for molestation charges. The case against Vishwas has been filed by the same woman who, in May this year, had approached the DCW alleging that her life was ruined since the AAP leader was not rebutting “rumours” about their alleged illicit liaison. This had prompted the DCW chairperson Barkha Singh to hold news conference and criticise the AAP leader. The senior AAP leader said, ” first she wanted me to just issue a clarification as, by her own admission, there was no allegation against me. Now that even the DCW has told the High Court that there was no case against me, this lady has come up with a case of molestation. This is nothing but a cheap ploy by my political rivals.” He said, he wasn’t overly worried about this new alleg
