PTI. MUMBAI: AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal hosted a Rs 20,000 per plate dinner for young professionals, diamond merchants and bankers here kick-starting the party's fund-raising campaign for the Delhi assembly elections. "We collected Rs 91 lakh from the fund-raiser dinner last night. Rs 36 lakh were collected from donor passes, Rs 36 lakh was through cheque donation from those who came and our volunteers collected Rs 21 lakh," AAP leader Preeti Sharma Menon told here on Friday. "The next fundraiser will be in Bengaluru. We are impressed with the response to our fund-raiser drive," she said. With online donations, AAP is looking to raise funds differently to take on BJP which is relying on 'brand Modi'. "The Mumbai dinner had space for a maximum of 200 donors, mostly our supporters. Most of those who attended were young professionals, some diamond merchants and a few directors from Bollywood," she said. AAP's Maharashtra unit has a target

Ungli movie review: Emraan Hashmi and Randeep Hooda starrer is a refreshing entertainer!

By Akshata Shetty: Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions recent venture Ungli falls into a different league and is unlike typical KJo films. Directed by Renzil D’Silva, the movie stars Emraan Hashmi, Kangana Ranaut, Sanjay Dutt, Randeep Hooda and Neha Dhupia in prominent roles. The multi-starrer film begins with a rather familiar incident where government officers insist on under the table fees to process an old man’s pension requests. A gang of four; Maya (Kangana), Abhay (Randeep), Kalim (Angad Bedi) and Gautam (Neil Bhoopalam) are all set out to take the law in their hands, since the concerned authorities don’t do their duties. Right from government officers taking bribe to the adamant politicians, everyone gets a taste of Ungli gang’s smart lessons. The first half of the movie will keep you gripped to your seats with successive or say rather interesting events taking place. Emraan Hashmi (Nikhil) makes a late but impressive entry as a clueless police officer, who doesn’t like h

Most electronic voting isn't secure, CIA expert says

BY GREG GORDON: WASHINGTON — The CIA, which has been monitoring foreign countries' use of electronic voting systems, has reported apparent vote-rigging schemes in Venezuela, Macedonia and Ukraine and a raft of concerns about the machines' vulnerability to tampering. Appearing last month before a U.S. Election Assistance Commission field hearing in Orlando, Fla., a CIA cybersecurity expert suggested that Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez and his allies fixed a 2004 election recount, an assertion that could further roil U.S. relations with the Latin leader. In a presentation that could provide disturbing lessons for the United States, where electronic voting is becoming universal, Steve Stigall summarized what he described as attempts to use computers to undermine democratic elections in developing nations. His remarks have received no news media attention until now. Stigall told the Election Assistance Commission, a tiny agency that Congress created in 2002 to mod

Vodafone case : Attorney General's opinion is gross impropriety & conflict of interest

New Delhi: The Modi government’s top law officer Attorney General Mr Mukul Rohatgi has committed a gross impropriety by advising the Income Tax department not to file an appeal against the Bombay High Court judgment, which ruled that telecom company Vodafone was not liable to pay Rs 3,200 crore tax. Mr Rohatgi, who as a private lawyer had appeared for Vodafone in May 24, 2012 in the Supreme Court should have recused himself from tendering an opinion in favour of the same company as the government’s top law officer. It is beyond any reasonable understanding that when the IT department wants to file an appeal in the Supreme Court for recovery of taxes from this British telecom company and the Solicitor General Mr Ranjit Kumar endorsed the department’s view, why did the finance ministry seek Mr Rohatgi’s opinion ? It is equally surprising that Mr Rohatgi did not disclose his conflict of interest and went ahead to tender an opinion which favours Vodafone, his client in the

CBI Badaun findings are shamefully wrong

New Delhi: The Aam Admi Party rejects the suicide theory proposed by the CBI in the Badaun gang rape and murder case. The party demands that the CBI should reconsider its report, the conclusions of which are  hasty in its analysis and it will be travesty of justice if the investigating agency closes the case. It seems humanly impossible for two girls to hang themselves or the CBI is not sharing the full facts. How can two young girls place their  dupattas  over a tree branch seven feet high, physically lift their bodies, tie knots on their necks and sustain the strength to die on their own? Certainly this smells of an inconclusive story. What then explains the physical injuries on the girls that were found in the initial post mortem? The case itself has gone through several speculations and past evidence has not been taken into full account. The initial post-mortem conducted by five competent doctors cannot be denied which had confirmed the rape. The CBI needs to
