AAP Won Delhi. You Didn't, LG Jung: Ashutosh, AAP

Ashutosh, AAP Till recently, I had not met Najeeb Jung, the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi. I was pleasantly surprised to see a different person from what I had expected - a man who loves his coffee strong, and enjoys welcoming his guests with a similar brew. He has a lovely cat that likes to sleep on the table where you are seated in his office. He is an extremely polite person, and his English, laced with Urdu, is impeccable. He comes across as a supremely well-mannered man, but the very next day, when I read the newspaper or switch on the TV, I see an entirely different person. When I hear that he has written a letter to the Delhi Chief Minister claiming that he, and only he is the government of Delhi, then I am reminded of his coffee with the cat. During our meeting, he gifted me his collection of articles and greatly appreciated my recent book on the 2014 elections. I have also been told that he had earlier taught at Oxford University. So I have no reason to beli

Earlier in the day, Mr Meena said, "We have observed that for the past one month, no calls are being received on Anti-Corruption helpline number 1031 issued by the Delhi government. People were calling but calls were not directed to our office, so we've decided to issue new helpline numbers which will be received by our office." A statement issued later by the Chief Minister's Office said, "Mr SS Yadav, IPS, is the Chief of ACB. Any decision regarding the ACB as its chief is to be taken by Mr Yadav only. The list has Thailand’s ex-prime minister Abhisit Vejjajiva, John Key, Prime Minister of New Zealand, among others. This is the second time that Google has targeted Indian Prime Minister. Earlier,

Nagpur techie Abdullah behind AAP’s campaign videos

NAGPUR: Thirty-four-year-old Nagpurian Abdullah Siddique has always firmly believed that 'To change the system, you have to be in the system', a thought advocated by Delhi's chief minister-designate Arvind Kejriwal. As soon as the Election Commission of India had announced Delhi elections, Abdullah made up his mind to lend a helping hand to his role model. Considering that Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) might lack funds for publicity, Abdullah along with three other partners started working on production of short films for the party in November last year. Today, his films are the rare ones which were shortlisted by the AAP's social media and IT Team and were widely used for campaigning. Born and brought up in Nagpur, Abdullah works as an IT professional in Pune. Recalling the story behind these films, he shared, "I have always been a huge Kejriwal fan as I felt his movement was valid and much-needed in our country. When AAP started a helpline, I made numerous calls and

Lokpal 2.0 to get more teeth: AAP gets ready to unveil new and improved anti-corruption bill

By Darpan Singh: The Aam Aadmi Party government will bring its Jan Lokpal Bill to set up an ombudsman to investigate corruption charges against politicians and civil servants in the Monsoon Session of the Delhi Assembly that is likely to take place in August. To recall, AAP had decided to end its 49-day rule and quit power in February 2014 when the minority government failed to table the previous version of the Bill in the Assembly. Both BJP and Congress had opposed the Bill saying its tabling was “unconstitutional” as the Centre had not vetted it. Centre’s nod awaited This time, the Bill has been tweaked to be stronger, and also more contentious, setting off fears of a bitter confrontation with the Centre, whose nod is a must for the half-state of Delhi to pass any such legislation. The revised version, apart from other provisions, also looks at greater powers over Delhi’s ACB (anti-corruption branch), an institution currently caught in legal and political battles between the Delh

New Delhi, by:-Tarique Anwar : As the tussle between the Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP government and the Union government refuses to die down, the question doing the rounds in several circles in Delhi is, what is Kejriwal fighting for? If it is about full statehood for the capital, it has not come out clear so far. If it’s about getting more effective administrative powers, it’s not clear either. What is visible so far is a series of skirmishes with no common link to a broader theme. That makes his battle look more like a private one. Experts believe that the ongoing confrontation between the CM and the L-G does is not one for full statehood to Delhi. A few of them argue that the “rhetoric war” is nothing beyond “political posturing”. "The fight with the Lieutenant Governor or the Centre is not at all a struggle for full statehood because this demand requires sustained popular agitation, dialogue with the Centre and building of political consensus," Abhay Kumar Dubey poli
