Arresting JNU’s Kanhaiya Kumar was act of ‘over enthusiasm’ by Delhi Police: MHA

In what appears to be a huge embarrassment for the central government, inputs from the security agencies have indicated that the JNU students union leader Kanhaiya Kumar may not have raised anti-India slogans. Delhi Police had wasted no time in arresting Kumar before slapping sedition charges against him. A PTI News report quoted Home Ministry officials saying that slapping of the serious charge of sedition against Kumar could be an act of “over enthusiasm” on the part of some Delhi Police officers. The news agency report further added that security agencies had conveyed Rajnath Singh that even though Kumar was present at the event commemorating the death of Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru, he possibly did not personally raise any anti-India slogan nor did he speak anything anti-national that may have made him a candidate for sedition charge. Delhi ACB chief MK Meena transferred to Andaman Nicobar

Delhi’s controversial Anti Corruption Bueau’s chief MK Meena has been transferred to Andaman Nicobar. A notification from the Ministry of Home Affairs was issued on Tuesday to this effect. The notification stated, “by cancelling his earlier transfer order to Arunachal Pradesh dated 08.04.2015. He be relieved on 01.04.2016.” Meena, whose appointment as the ACB chief had drawn unprecedented controversy, was accused by Delhi’s AAP government of not working in accordance with law. This came after officer S S Yadav, who was heading the ACB until Meena was brought in by the Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung, complained that he was being pressurised by Meena and couldn’t effectively discharge his duties. ACB chief Meena has been a subject of several controversies since his appointment by the Delhi LG, Najeeb Jung.
