Nagpur techie Abdullah behind AAP’s campaign videos

NAGPUR: Thirty-four-year-old Nagpurian Abdullah Siddique has always firmly believed that 'To change the system, you have to be in the system', a thought advocated by Delhi's chief minister-designate Arvind Kejriwal. As soon as the Election Commission of India had announced Delhi elections, Abdullah made up his mind to lend a helping hand to his role model.

Considering that Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) might lack funds for publicity, Abdullah along with three other partners started working on production of short films for the party in November last year. Today, his films are the rare ones which were shortlisted by the AAP's social media and IT Team and were widely used for campaigning.

Born and brought up in Nagpur, Abdullah works as an IT professional in Pune. Recalling the story behind these films, he shared, "I have always been a huge Kejriwal fan as I felt his movement was valid and much-needed in our country. When AAP started a helpline, I made numerous calls and tried to find connections to share my films with the party. Finally, I got in touch with the party's social media team who liked my video based on the theme of eve-teasing and shared it on AAP's official pages on Facebook, Twitter and other social media networks." He said that the video has received more than 5 lakh hits till now on different social networking sites

This marked the beginning of Abdullah's tie-up with AAP who asked him to make more such films. Making the most of this opportunity, Abdullah put forth a condition before starting his work. "I didn't demand any funds, equipments or manpower. I just wanted one thing - a talk with Arvind Kejriwal and I kept insisting on this," he said. Abdullah can never forget the day when in December last year, he got a totally unexpected call from his role model. "It was the best moment of my life when Kejriwal called me and congratulated me for my work. The call lasted for five minutes in which he asked me to make more such films and send it to him on his personal e-mail id," Abdullah told TOI.

After this, Abdullah made two more films based on corruption which were also appreciated by AAP. Abdullah has scripted and produced these films along with his short team consisting of four members. "We don't take funds from anybody. The expenses of making these films were borne by me and a few team members. As we didn't have much capital, we shot the films in a very short span because we had hired a professional camera on a per day basis," he said. Abdullah has done his schooling from Bishop Cotton School and Modern School and engineering from Priyadarshini College of Engineering.

Talking to TOI, AAP's social media head Ankit Lal praised Abdullah's efforts and said that his work was quite different from the rest. "We decided to use his short films as they were well-directed and script and had a strong script. The actors played their parts well and different issues were highlighted effectively," he said.
